Abbey Cl, Abingdon OX14 3GJD, UK – 01235 520202
Abbey Meadows is a large informal park that borders the river Thames. For the most part it consists of grass, criss-crossed by pathways and shaded by mature trees. In another example of Abingdon spending money wisely for the benefit of its residents, there's a recently completed, extremely well-equipped, well-maintained and safe (it's fenced) playground for children. Nearby is a splash play area which is active during the summer (and kept clear of goose poo with regular early morning hosing!) There are fairly decent public toilets near the entrance but these are not always open.
My two girls absolutely loved this place. A lot of thanks must go to the coucil for investing in all this equipment for the children. A lovely treat for my girls. The grounds are well maintained and are a credit to the employees. The water park is good fun. The Lido gets booked out quickly, for very good reason.
